The Science Behind Hypochlorous Acid

Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is a naturally occurring compound in the body that plays a key role in wound healing and infection control. When used for piercing aftercare, HOCl acts as a mild, but powerful disinfectant, effectively killing harmful bacteria, viruses, and fungi without irritating or damaging the skin. Unlike harsher antiseptics like alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, HOCl supports the body’s natural healing process by reducing inflammation and preventing infection. Its gentle, non-toxic properties make it ideal for fresh piercings, helping to create a safe environment for faster, more comfortable healing.

Directions for Use

  • Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before touching your piercing.
  • Hold bottle upright and spray directly onto piercing area. Ensure complete coverage.
  • Can also be used with PiercingProtect™ Safe Swabs
  • Allow to air dry for 30-45 seconds and then gently blot the area with a clean, disposable paper towel.
  • Use the spray 2-3 times daily, or as directed by your piercing professional.
  • Do not over-saturate the are or allow moisture to sit on piercing for long periods of time. A light misting is sufficient for effective cleaning.
